A Study to Determine the Feasibility and Success of Using a Web-based Distributed Quality of Life (QOL) Survey to Collect Information After Abdominal Surgery

About this study

The overall objective of this study is to obtain patient reported outcomes regarding quality of life (QOL) via Mayo Clinic’s existing and well-established web-based portal that is easily available for download as a mobile app.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. Age ≥ 18 years of age.
  2. Have a history of abdominal malignancy (esophagogastric junction or stomach, hepatopancreaticobiliary, or colorectal) whose treatment includes a surgical operation. Other treatments including chemotherapy and radiation (RT) are acceptable.
  3. Access to a computer and/or smart phone device through which the Mayo Clinic patient portal or web-based application may be accessed.
  4. Patient or legal representative must understand the investigational nature of this study and sign an Independent Ethics Committee/Institutional Review Board approved written informed consent form prior to receiving any study related procedure.

Exclusion Criteria:

Subjects will be excluded from this study for the following:

  1. Does not wish to receive mailed and web-based survey.
  2. Does not have access to either a computer or smart phone device, or is otherwise unable to access the Internet to receive web-based notifications or the electronic QOL survey.
