A Study to Learn More About the Relationship between Fetal DNA and the Maternal Immune System

About this study

The purpose of this study is to learn about the ability of fetal DNA to activate the immune system.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age: ≥18 and ≤35 years at study entry.
  • Ability to provide written informed consent.
  • Weight greater than 110 pounds (50 kilograms, a standard requirement in obstetric studies that include blood draws).
  • Opting for elective C-section (only for optional placenta donation, not blood draws).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Known immunodeficiency.
  • Chronic, active viral infections including HIV-1/2, HTLV-1/2, Hepatitis B/C.
  • Known autoimmune disease.
  • Solid organ or transplant recipient.
  • Current smokers (tobacco exposure within 30 days of registration).
  • Conceptions from assisted reproductive technology. Prior Clomid® use is allowed.
