PRe-emptive GEnome Discoveries Improving Care for Biobank VolunTeers (PREDICT)

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the proposed risks and benefits of predictive genomic sequencing, including short-and long-term impacts on:

(i) health-related outcomes;
(ii) healthcare utilization;
(iii) psychosocial impact, and
(iv) physician acceptance.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age ≥ 35-65 years.
  • Registered Mayo Clinic patient and Biobank participant.
  • Two to four physician visits to Mayo Clinic within prior 12 to 24 months.
  • No active serious medical problems.
  • Life expectancy > 36 months.
  • No prior genomic testing (excludes pharmacogenomics).
  • Able to provide informed written consent.
  • Reside in MN, WI, IA, or FL and willing to return to Mayo Clinic for follow-up during the study.
  • Have an assigned Mayo Clinic Primary Care Provider (internal medicine or family medicine) at the time of study invitation.
  • Email and web access (for watching videos and receiving surveys).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • History of cancer:
    • EXCEPTIONS: Non-melanotic skin cancer or carcinoma-in-situ of the cervix.
  • Prior genomic testing (i.e., Biobank 1,000 Whole Genome Sequencing Project, e-MERGE).
  • Other co-morbidity which would interfere with patient’s ability to participate in the study.
  • Pregnancy.
