Refining the Fit of Scleral Lenses Over the Sclera

About this study

The purpose of the study is to determine if scleral lense fitted with quadrant specific haptics will provide better patient comfort compared to lenses fitted by using standard spherical or toric haptics.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Patients with successful wear of a scleral lens for the past 6 months in one eye.
Or subjects that are being fit with a scleral lens for the first time.
If patients have worn scleral lenses in both eyes for more than 6 months, or are being fit for both eyes, one eye will randomly be selected for the study.
Any history of eye injury, surgery, or eye drops use will be recorded.
Non-quadrant specific lens diameter 18-19mm.

Exclusion Criteria:

Scleral lens wear for less than 6 months.
Central corneal opacity too dense for adequate scheimpflug photography or fluorophotometry evaluation.
History of full or partial corneal transplant in the study eye.
