Synchronous Video (Telemedicine) Consulation in the Prehospital Setting

About this study

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility, compliance, and impact of synchronous physician engagement for patients (adult and pediatric) being cared for in the prehospital arena (either 911 or community paramedic follow up calls) and interfacility transports. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Emergency Medicine Telemedicine Program
  • 911 Calls with the following:
    • Cardiac Arrest;
    • Hemodynamically unstable trauma patients requiring resuscitation and airway management;
    • Trauma patients with altered mentation requiring airway management;
    • Acute stroke patients;
    • Medical patients that refuse transport for medical evaluation;
    • Pediatric Intensive Care Telemedicine Program;
    • Complex clinical situations where paramedic teams need immediate management guidance.
  • Pediatric Critical Care Telemedicine Program
  • Pediatric Critical Care Transport Teams with the following:
    • Critically ill pediatric patients requiring evaluation/stabilization for interfacility transport;
    • Pediatric patients requiring intervention for respiratory failure;
    • Pediatric patients with ongoing seizures and/or neurological abnormalities;
    • Hemodynamically unstable patients;
    • Complex clinical situations requiring medical control guidance.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • All other patients not listed above.
