A Study to Evaluate Awake vs. Asleep Spine Surgery

Overview

About this study

Patients undergoing spine lumbar surgery will be asked to perform short exams/questionnaires aimed at determining cognitive function, quality of life, health outcomes twice post surgery with a baseline performance prior to surgery.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients must be age 18 or older.
  • Patients must be able to understand and provide written informed consent.
  • Patients must have planned surgical intervention of lumbar laminectiomy or lumbar fusion.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients under the age of 18.
  • Patients lacking capacity to consent.
