Treating Patients with Heart Failure Using a Respiratory Resistance Therapeutic Device

About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential benefits to pulmonary function using a unique respiratory “training mask” during exercise on patients with heart failure.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion criteria:

18 to 85 years of age;
NYHA class I-III HF with stable pharmacological therapy;
Enrolled in the cardiac rehabilitation program at Mayo Clinic;
Able to perform exercise without orthopedic limitations;
Able to consent for themselves.

Exclusion criteria:

Severe COPD;
HF with LVAD;
Using supplemental oxygen during daily activities or exercise.
