A Study to Assess the Perspectives of Patients and Their Families and the Process of Humanization of Critical Illness

About this study

The purposes of this study are to understand some key perspectives of patients and family members regarding the existing Get to Know Me board as a tool in humanizing the critical care environment, and to understand key perspectives of patients and families on the importance of humanizing the ICU and methods of doing so.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Critieria:

Adults ( ≥ 18 years).
Critically ill patients admitted to medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro or mixed ICU at Mayo Clinic.
Has a family member available.
> 24.00 hours in ICU length of stay.
Get to Know Me board was used in the ICU.

Exclusion Criteria:

If patient unable to communicate and has no family members or friends available.
Patients without research authorization.
