A Study to Assess the Effect of Compression on Hand Motor Control in Stroke Patients

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the application of compression to the distal aspect of the upper extremity of a person with stroke will increase range of motion of the wrist.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects must be over the age of 18
  • Subjects must have previously suffered a stroke with at least one of the upper limbs was affected.
  • Subjects must be able to demonstrate volitional activation of wrist flexor and extensor muscles in a neutral plane.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects must not have significant sensory loss in their upper extremities; i.e., subjects must be able to feel when pressure is applied to the forearm and confirm that the level of pressure is not uncomfortable.
