Eosinophils in Human Adipose Tissue

About this study

This study aims to assess adipose tissue-eosinophil content and adiopose tissue metabolism 3 months after endoscopic gastroplasty weight loss procedure.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m^2).
  • Mayo Clinic patients evaluated by Dr. Rahul Pannala.
  • Equal distribution of gender.
  • ≥ 18 years of age.
  • BMI > 30 kg/m^2.
  • Nonsmoker.
  • Taking no medication affecting glucose or lipid metabolism.
  • No more than 5% change in body weight in the previous 6 months.
  • Mostly sedentary (engaging in strenuous exercise (> 70% max HR) less than 3 times a week).
  • Not be receiving corticosteroid therapy.
  • Have no history of asthma, COPD or atopic syndrome, or autoimmune disease (ulcerative colitis, Chrohn’s disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, any rheumatologic disease such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • < 17 years of age.
  • BMI < 30 kg/m^2.
  • Smoker.
  • Taking medication affecting glucose or lipid metabolism.
  • Greater than 5% change in body weight within the previous six months.
  • Engage in strenuous exercise (> 70% max HR) or more than 3 times a week.
  • Receiving corticosteroid therapy.
  • History of severe asthma on chronic steroid therapy.
  • History of COPD or atopic syndrome.
  • History of autoimmune disease (ulcerative colitis, Chrohn’s disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, any rheumatologic disease such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome).
