Immune Dysfunction in Autoimmune Disease

About this study

The purpose of this study is to define the molecular defects leading to the breakdown of self-tolerance in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and compare them to immune abnormalities in other autoimmune diseases.
 

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis defined by ACR/EULAR criteria.
  • Diagnosis of immune-mediated disease affecting the joint, the lung, the muscle, the nervous system, the heart, or the vascular system. Diagnosis will be made by a qualified rheumatologist.
  • First degree relatives of enrolled participants with immune-mediated diseases.
  • Controls not meeting any of the exclusion criteria listed below.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Healthy Controls:
    • Personal or family Hx of autoimmune disease
    • Personal Hx of chemo/radiotherapy
    • Personal Hx of cancer (with the exception of basal cell carcinoma of the skin)
    • Persnal or family Hx of immunodeficiency
