A Study to Understand Metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and -12 (MMP-12) in Giant Cell Arteritis

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to gain more insight about the role of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and -12 in the vascular remodeling in temporal arteries with giant cell arteritis (GCA), determine if their serum levels could be useful for diagnosis and/or follow up of patients with GCA, and determine if s single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of MMP-9 and/or MMP-12 could prove to be useful for diagnosis or prognosis.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients in which a TAB was performed due to clinical suspicion for GCA.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Lack of pathology specimen or clinical information.
  • Ptients will be added to the 20 patients (10 with positive and 10 with negative TAB for GCA) of the study that we are currently performing of MMP-9, MMP-12 and their natural inhibitors.
