A Qualitative Study of Understanding Pediatric Physical Therapists’ Experiences Working With Middle Eastern Patients and Families Who Require Arabic Interpreter Services

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify Arabic interpreters’ perspective on their successes, challenges, barriers and/or difficulties with interpreting words, concepts, and health beliefs within the context of the outpatient PPT (Pediatric Physical Therapy) setting. Also, to discover families’ expectations for PPT episodes, perceptions of care, and exercise-related health beliefs of Arabic speaking Middle Eastern pediatric patients and their families who require interpreter services.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Have worked in the outpatient PPT setting at Mayo Clinic within the last 8 years (5 years for recent recall, plus 3 years to account for decreased patient population of interest during Covid-19 pandemic).
Have worked with at least 1 Arabic speaking patient/family with interpreter services.
Report ability to discuss experience with this patient population.

Exclusion Criteria:

Have not met inclusion criteria.
