About this study

The purpose of this study is to improve heart transplantation and clinical outcomes for transplant patients. The study will enroll individuals who are scheduled for heart surgery where samples from their heart will be collected as part of the normal surgical procedure.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults 18 years or older.
  • Individuals with various types of cardiomyopathy, including idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (familial cardiomyopathy), ischemic cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertensive cardiomyopathy, amyloid or other infiltrative cardiomyopathies.
  • Myocardium from any patient that enters the Heart Transplant Program at Mayo Clinic Florida irrespective of specific underlying pathophysiological mechanism.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • < 18 years of age.
