Mayo Clinic Transgender Gender Diverse Community Partnership to Improve Gender Affirming Care Access and Outcomes

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to create a patient-centered research partnership with a stakeholder advisory group (SAB) to adapt the Duke Transgender and Gender Diverse Individual Registry. The SAB will guide all phases of the proposed research to develop a framework for the first US multisite adult TGD prospective cohort. Patient registries are one of the most effective research tools for studying and understanding underrepresented populations and rare diseases. They support quality measurement, provide feedback to clinicians and institutions for quality improvement, facilitate clinical research, and enable evaluation of healthcare access and disparities.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • All adult (age ≥ 18 years old) patients.
  • Are receiving or seeking medical care at the Duke Adult Gender Medicine clinic. Because the Duke Adult Gender Medicine clinic does not provide medical care to children; we will focus on recruitment of adults to provide initial data matched to their cohort. Since participation in the Research Registry does not involve a risk of physical harm, women of childbearing potential will not be queried as to pregnancy status or tested for pregnancy.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Age < 18 years old.
  • Due to the complexity of state and federal requirements governing the participation of prisoners in research, prisoners-patients shall not be approached for participation in the Research Registry.
