Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery Real-World Functional Activity

About this study

The purpose of this study is to measure objective functional activity and gait and trunk stability in spinal deformity patients utilizing motion analysis testing and accelerometers. This will provide real-world data and evidence in optimizing care for spinal deformity patients.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ages ≥ 18 years.
  • Diagnosis of degenerative thoracolumbar deformity.
  • Deformity correction surgery scheduled with either Dr. Elder or Dr. Fogelson, minimum 4-level fusion with fixation to the pelvis.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Unable to return to Mayo Clinic for follow-up evaluation.
  • Patient is immobile (unable to walk independently or with a use of a gait aid)
