Implementation of OR Active Microbreaks Using OR-Stretch Web Application to Reduce Surgeons’ Intraoperative Workload and Body Part Discomfort

About this study

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the implementation of active microbreaks in the operating rooms using OR-Stretch web application to reduce surgeons’ intraoperative workload and body part discomfort. The data of this research study will be used to reduce burden in the operating room (OR). The web application utilized is called OR-Stretch and was designed at Mayo Clinic to guide surgeons through brief stretches (70 seconds) during their surgical cases to reduce workload and body part discomfort and decrease the likelihood of long-term injuries or disability

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • The surgical procedure should have an expected duration of at least 2 hours and no longer than 6 hours.
  • The participant should perform at least 50% of the surgical procedure.
  • Participant must be willing and able to participate in all aspects of the study.
  • Participant must work at Jacksonville Mayo Clinic Campus.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • If any of the four inclusion criteria is violated.
  • If investigator decides it is not in the best interest to perform and collect data on a certain procedure for research purposes.
