About this study

The purpose of this study is to assess feasibility of measuring gastric physiologic parameters with dynamic MR imaging pre and postoperatively (3 months) in patients undergoing ESG as primary treatment of obesity

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • BMI > 30 Kg/m^2.
  • ESG with Overstitch device.
  • Willing to have gastric MRI preprocedure and at 3 months post-procedure.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Contraindications to ESG procedure.
  • Metallic implants not compatible with MRI.
  • Severe claustrophobia.
  • Inability to take test meal (or egg allergy).
  • Dumping syndrome.
  • Persistent nausea or vomiting.
  • Diabetic or idiopathic gastroparesis existing prior to ESG.
  • Pharmacotherapy for weight loss (for patients where adjunctive pharmacotherapy is utilized with ESG, it will be initiated after the 3-month time period and following MR imaging).
  • Severe coagulopathy.
