Medical Interpreters Work Experiences With Pediatric Physical Therapists, Patients, and Families During Outpatient Physical Therapy Sessions

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify medical interpreters’ perspective on their successes, challenges, barriers and difficulties with interpreting words, concepts, and health beliefs within the context of the outpatient pediatric physical therapy setting.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Have provided interpreter services in the outpatient pediatric physical therapy setting at Mayo Clinic within the last 8 years (5 years for recent recall, plus 3 years to account for decreased patient population of interest during Covid-19 pandemic); 
  • Have worked with at least 1 pediatric physical therapy session in person; report ability to discuss experience with this appointment type.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • < 22 years of age.
