Asymmetrical Spinal Loading, Age, and Disc Degeneration Associations

About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of asymmetrical spinal loads on degenerative disc disease (DD) with age.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients will be recruited if they already have MRI scans of the lumbar whithin the last three years. 
  • Patients with no history of spine disorders or low back pain according to the Pfirrmann grading system.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Individuals with prior spine, knee, or hip surgery within the last year will be excluded. Patients without imaging data will be excluded. Patients who are not able to perform the physical activities will be excluded. BMI ≥ 35.
