Diagnosing and Surveillance of Proximal Airway Disorders Utilizing Voice Analysis Through Machine Learning

About this study

The purpose of this study is to develop voice analysis, done though a machine learning (ML) based approach, as a tool to aid in the diagnosis and/or surveillance of post-lung transplantation anastomatic site stenosis and idiopathic subglottic stenosis.   

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • ≥ 18 years of age.
  • Confirmed sub-glottic stenosis.
  • Lung transplant recipients with a surgical transplant performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
  • Healthy controls with normal pulmonary function testing.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Exclusion of patients with sub-glottic stenosis and other chronic respiratory illnesses (e.g., asthma, COPD).
  • Exclusion of voice and breath sound recordings prior to bronchoscopic intervention such as airway dilation or stent placement.
  • Exclusion of controls with normal pulmonary function testing and a known respiratory disease (e.g., asthma, COPD).
  • Exclusion of controls with normal pulmonary function testing performed elsewhere from Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN).
