Patients’ Perception of Amplitude (loudness) changes during audiological testing.

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to characterize the accuracy of patients’ perception of amplitude (loudness) changes during audiological testing. Specifically, we aim to determine patients’ ability to detect a decrease in loudness of a pulsed pure tone stimulus introduced at suprathreshold levels at different frequencies.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age of 18 years or older
  • Moderate to profound sensorineural hearing loss in at least one ear, defined as an air conduction pure-tone average (PTA) ≥ 40 dB, and at least one frequency having ≤ 80 dB air conduction thresholds at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, or 4000 hertz
  • Willingness to participate in the single session of audiometric testing

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Age less than 18 years
  • Non-English speaking
  • Unable to have capacity to consent
  • Unable to cooperate or follow commands based on observation during orientation or clinical history
  • > 80 dB air conduction thresholds at 250, 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 hertz
  • Anatomy not conducive to ear canal foam acoustic transducer placement

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.
