A Study of Cardiac Device 500 In ICU While Waiting for a Heart Transplant

About this study

The purpose of this study is to evaluate patterns of activity, physical function, and quality of life among hospitalized patients with tMCS awaiting cardiac transplant and evaluate patient perceived benefits, facilitators, and barriers to participation in a nurse-led exercise initiative.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Be listed for heart transplantation with planned tMCS device placement in a non-emergent setting
  • Have orders for ambulation
  • Have access to a smartphone.
  • Speak, read and write English
  • Be at least 18 years old.

Exclusion Crriteria:

  • Hemodynamically unstable
  • Supported by mechanical ventilator, or if
  •  tMCS is placed in the femoral artery.
  • Patients receiving physical or occupational therapy will not be excluded from the study. Physical and/or occupational therapy will be examined as potential confounding variable during data analysis
