Changes in Sleep and Symptoms in People With Inflammatory Bowel Disease Undergoing Ostomy Surgery

About this study

The purpose of this study is to describe sleep health, symptoms, and function in people undergoing ostomy surgery. The results will be used to better understand what interventions can be used in the future to prevent and treat negative impacts of sleep health and symptoms in people with an ostomy

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • We will include adults aged 18 to 65, undergoing new ileostomy surgeries with expected duration of their ileostomy of at least 3 months.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • We will exclude those with emergency ostomy surgery, continent ileostomy, severe mental illness (i.e., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder), patients who cannot consent themself, no access to mobile devices, or unable to read or write in English.
