Evaluating the Nerve Arborization Pattern of the Nipple-Areolar Complex

About this study

The purpose of this study is to prospectively examine thirty (30) specimens, using special stains to help locate the nerves on the undersurface of the NAC.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

Adult females ( ≥ 18 years old), undergoing Simple/Total Mastectomy or Skin Sparing Mastectomy, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Exclusion Criteria:

Prior chest radiation therapy, prior surgery involving the NAC, diagnosis of any pathological lesions affecting the NAC, including and not limited to, malignant lesions.
