Assessing the Role of Telemedicine for Forensic Certification Exams

About this study

The purpose of this study is address one portion of the impending FAA critical manpower shortage and testing access concerns by developing telemedicine kiosks specifically for certification purposes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Any Mayo Clinic patient aged 18-85 scheduled for a flight physical within the Section of Transportation Medicine.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Inability to operate a smart phone or use on-line apps.
  • Patients/pilots being seen for a consultation only without completing the FAA medical application form.
  • Patients/pilots with complex medical conditions requiring Special Issuance Authorization (a waiver).
