Abnormally low carbon dioxide levels prior to exercise on exercise capacity, tissue oxygen delivery, lactic acid threshold and recovery.

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of lower carbon dioxide levels on exercise capacity, tissue oxygen delivery and recovery in healthy participants.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Includsion Criteria:

  • Research subject conditions that may result in alterations of ventilatory control (capnic status) and exercise capacity will be specifically reviewed as criteria for participation. \
  • We will strive for a balanced male/female participant study population with between ages  18-40years.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Current pregnancy in women, alcohol use within the past 3 days prior to the experiment, history of balance problems (e.g. vertigo, neuropathy, central or peripheral vestibular disorders), recent cardiac problems or symptoms, and musculoskeletal disorders affecting the ability to perform a stress test in participants will lead to exclusion from participation.
