Insulin and Insulin Pulses on Fasting Glucagon Secretion and on Glucose Metabolism in Subjects Without Type 2 Diabetes

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to establish how glucagon and insulin interact with their receptors to control fasting glucose in health and in prediabetes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Intention of female volunteers not to conceive for the period of study.
  • All women of childbearing potential will have a negative pregnancy test within 48 hours prior to any study because of the potential effect of pregnancy on glucose metabolism.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Age < 25 or > 65 years (to avoid studying subjects who could have latent type 1 diabetes, or the effects of age extremes in subjects with normal or impaired fasting glucose).
  • HbA1c ³ 6.5%.
  • Use of any glucose-lowering agents including metformin or sulfonylureas.
  • For female subjects: positive pregnancy test at the time of enrollment or study.
