Handheld Dynamometry Compared to a Custom Neck Strengthen Testing Device to Test Cervical Muscle Strength

About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the validity of handheld dynamometry (HHD) for testing cervical muscle strength using a custom neck testing device as a comparison. 

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusionary Criteria:

  • 18-26 years old.
  • Fluent English Speaker.
  • No current cervical pain or condition that would compromise the ability to perform a maximal isometric contraction of the cervical musculature. 
  • No pain with screening evaluation consisting of active flexion, extension, side bending and negative Spurling’s compression test.

Exclusionary Criteria:

  • Lack of verbal fluency in the English Language.
  • Current neck pain or cervical pathology.
