Validation of a Core Flexion Endurance Measure

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study aims to establish the framework of rehabilitation goals for core endurance in women post deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap surgery, a reconstructive approach following mastectomy or bilateral mastectomy for those with breast cancer. Trunk flexion endurance is the ability to maintain a flexed posture of the trunk over time, which is important for core stability and pelvic control. This study will help us validate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the McGill trunk flexor test in a normal health adult femal population. By doing so, we hope to provide a clinically accessible, reliable baseline for trunk flexion endurance that can be used in both preventative and post-operative care for women undergoing DIEP flap surgery. The data gathered from this study will support future rehabilitation efforts and improve the management of trunk flexion performance in breast cancer patients recovering from this reconstructive procedure.
