About this study

The primary aim of this study is to determine the biomarkers involved in pain and inflammatory response to spine surgery, and to investigate potential differences between different anesthetic modalities, spinal anesthesia vs general anesthesia vs general anesthesia with a spinal block for spine surgery.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

 

  • Patients must be age 18 or older.
  • Patients must be able to understand and provide written consent.
  • Patients must have planned surgical intervention of lumbar or sacral fusion.
  • Willing to provide blood specimens as part of this research.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients under the age of 18 will not be included in this study.
  • Patients lacking capacity to consent will not be included in this study.
