A Study to Better Understand How Individuals with Brachial Plexus Injuries Feel about the Use of a Powered Upper Extremity Orthosis
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to better understand how individuals with brachial plexus injuries feel about the use of a powered upper extremity orthosis. The study aim is to explore their requirements for assistance with activities of daily living, as well as their desires pertaining to overall function in their daily life.
-
Ideal Axon Counts for Free Functioning Gracilis Muscle Transfer
Rochester, MN
The aim of this study is to look at the number of axons, myelinated fiber area, and total axon area of the SAN and ICNs, in addition to the obturator nerve of the gracilis muscle.

A Study of Upper Extremity Motion Strategies for Activities of Daily Living in Patients who have had Brachial Plexus Reconstruction
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to measure the joint angles and range of motion for daily activities in adults who have had brachial plexus reconstruction surgery. Results from this study can help to improve the surgical planning for restoration of upper extremity function. There is also potential for results from this study to aid in the design of assistive upper extremity orthotic devices.
-
A Study to Review Technique and Results of Triceps Transfers with an Endobutton for Elbow Flexion Reconstruction in Patients with Chronic Brachial Plexus Injury
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to review published information, describe the surgical technique, and review the results of past cases of triceps muscle transfer secured with an endobutton for elbow flexion reconstruction in patients who have chronic brachial plexus injury.
-
A Study to Evaluate Elbow Flexion Electromyography Characterization After Brachial Plexus Injury
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to measure the electromyographic (EMG) activity in adults who have been affected by a brachial plexus injury. Results from this study will aid in the design of assistive upper extremity orthotic devices.
-
UE EMG
Rochester, MN
Taking in-clinic measures of elbow flexor electromyography from individuals who have had surgical brachial plexus reconstruction to aid in the design of a future upper extremity assistive orthosis.
-
A Study of the Functional Outcome of Tendon Transfers in Brachial Plexus Injuries
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to evaluate different alternatives in management of Brachial Plexus Injuries for patients who require tendon transfer for improvement of function.
-
A Study of Upper Extremity Activity in the Everyday Living Environment of Individuals with Brachial Plexus Injuries Compared to Individuals without with Brachial Plexus Injuries
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to assess arm activity in the free living environment before and after treatment of a brachial plexus injury. The information collected in this study may give insight into the outcomes of treatment.
-
3D US Imaging of Acute Nerve Root Avulsions in Injuries of the Brachial Plexus
Jacksonville, FL
The purpose of this study is to address a knowledge gap. Early diagnosis of nerve root avulsion injuries following brachial plexus trauma remain a barrier to the early treatment of these complex injuries. Traditionally, an observation period of 6 months following brachial plexus injuries has been utilized to allow for reinnervation. Reinnervation is not possible in the setting of nerve root avulsion from the spinal cord and waiting for reinnervation in this setting unnecessarily delays treatment and potentially compromises outcome. Having the ability to provide a real time evaluation of nerve root integrity would obviate the need of other more ...

Adolescents with Brachial Plexus Birth Palsy (BPBP)
Rochester, MN
The goal of this study is to define what difficulties brachial plexus clinic patients with brachial plexus birth palsy (BPBP) are experiencing, what options for treatment are available, and, if treatment is completed, whether the treatment decreases their disability.
-
A Study to Evaluate Ketamine to Treat Chronic Neuropathic Pain in Patients with Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injuries
Rochester, MN
The purpose of this study is to assess pre- and postoperative neuropathic pain in patients with traumatic brachial plexus injuries to determine if intraoperative ketamine infusion affect neuropathic pain associated with avulsion injuries of the brachial plexus.
A secondary goal is to determine the duration of pain relief following ketamine infusions.
-
A Study to Assess Upper Extremity Function Using a Powered Exoskeleton
Rochester, MN
The goal of the proposed study is to develop and validate a myoelectrically-controlled power-assist upper extremity exoskeleton (powered exoskeleton) to assist with upper extremity motion in patients with traumatic peripheral nerve injuries who have inadequate motor function.
