Hair cortisol in diagnosis of endogenous hypercortisolism.
Rochester, Minn.
Hypothesis: Hair cortisol and cortisone in patients with Cushing syndrome (CS) will be elevated compared to patients with Pseudo-Cushing syndrome and healthy volunteers as established by Mayo Medical Laboratories.
Aims:
1. To establish optimal cut-off value of scalp hair cortisol and cortisone measured by novel Liquid-Chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) assay developed by Mayo Medical laboratories
in patients with endogenous CS and in patients in whom CS was suspected but diagnosis rejected.
2. To compare performance of scalp hair cortisol and cortisone based on mild, moderate or severe clinical suspicion of CS and currently available laboratory tests including 24-h urinary cortisol and LNSC.
