  • Extending the role of neuromuscular ultrasound in the EMG laboratory Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla.

    The purpose of this study is to further develop normal values for nerve and muscle ultrasound in the Mayo EMG lab, to allow more widespread use of this non-invasive tool in the diagnostic work up of patients presenting to the EMG lab, and to validate those normal values in clinical practice.

  • Diaphragm Ultrasound in Normal and Diseased Subjects Rochester, Minn.

    The purpose of this study is to compare diaphragm excursion (measured with B mode ultrasound) in a small group of healthy subjects with the published values in the curernt literature and to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of M mode ultrasound, in isolation, and when combined with B mode ultrasound of the diaphragm, in diagnosing neuromuscular disease of the diaphragm.

  • Quantitative Muscle Ultrasound – Normal values and Development of a Neuromuscular Disease Database Rochester, Minn.

    The purpose of this study is to

    1. To develop a database of normal values for muscle thickness and echo-intensity in American children and adults.

    2. To determine the sensitivity and specificity of muscle ultrasound in diagnosing neuromuscular disease in pediatric patients referred for EMG testing at the Mayo Clinic.
