Exploring the Benefits of Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) for Children with Complex Medical Needs Served in an Urban Free-Standing Outpatient Pediatric Care Clinic
Jacksonville, Fla.
The purpose of this study is to quantify child and parent satisfaction, change in quality of life, and change in child behavior following 8 sessions of adjunctive Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) onsite at Nemours Children’s Health-Jacksonville. A secondary objective will also explore child attendance at EAT sessions and monitor child mental status exam results for sessions.

Mechanisms of Insulin Resistance in Man

The purpose of this study is to examine how, when and why does the liver release excess glucose into the blood stream during the day and at night in people with type 2 diabetes and whether certain antidiabetic medications can modulate some of the causal factors related to high blood sugar in order to develop rational approaches for and management of type 2 diabetes. More than 400 million people in the world have either type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. The diagnostic hallmark of these conditions is elevated blood sugar levels first thing in the morning.

Nemours - Colonic Transit Time in Pediatric Patients with Challenging Constipation

The purpose of this study is to correlate the simplified Sitz marker test with outcomes of constipation in pediatric patients, and determine predictive response to medical and surgical therapy by comparing the patients with good and poor response to treatment with the sitz marker result. Also, to correlate sitz marker results with other tests used in challenging constipation (colonic and anorectal manometry, contrast enema), and determine clinical variables that modify the outcome related to the sitz marker test

Nemours: Effect of Adding Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) to Lifestyle Changes on Insulin Sensitivity in Patients With Impaired Glucose Tolerance

The purpose of this study is to assess whether use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) in patients with impaired glucose tolerance would Improve adherence to lifestyle modifications, resulting in improved insulin sensitivity as assessed using insulin sensitivity scores (ISS) from baseline to 6 months. Also, to assess insulin sensitivity using the QUICKI measure and will assess changes after just 3 months in both ISS and QUICKI. Additionally, to assess whether the same patients will have decreased body mass index from baseline to 6 months. We will also assess changes in BMI at 3 months and whether the same patients will have improved glucose tolerance as assessed by HbA1c and CGM data.
