  • A Pilot Study of the Associations between Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea in Breast Cancer Patients and Gut Microbiome Composition Profiles Mankato, Minn., Albert Lea, Minn.

The long-term goal of this study is to alleviate the occurrence of CIN and fatigue and to improve chemotherapy treatment outcomes. The identification of associations between fatigue, CIN and chemotherapy-induced changes in gut microbiome composition profiles will increase our understanding of these mechanisms that underlie patient symptom experience. An increased understanding of the underlying mechanisms will provide targets for the development of novel interventions to help alleviate fatigue and CIN.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy for Early Maladaptive Grief: A Clinical Trial Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla.

The purpose study is to test the effects of accelerated resolution therapy (ART) on pre-loss grief and complicated grief among older adult family caregivers (FCGs). Additionally, to better understand predictors of response to ART, and cognitive processes that occur among grieving individuals following ART.

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy in Cancer and Palliative Care: A Program Evaluation Jacksonville, Fla. The following research questions will guide this study: 1) Is ART feasible and acceptable for use with distressed patients and/or family caregivers in oncology and palliative care clinical settings? 2) What is the mean dose of ART provided to distressed patients and/or family caregivers? 3) What are the patient and family stressors that result in a recommendation for ART? 4) Does ART reduce symptoms of psychological trauma, anxiety and depression, when used with distressed patients and family caregivers in oncology and palliative care clinical settings? 5) Does ART improve resilience when used with distressed patients and family caregivers in oncology and palliative care clinical settings?
  • Factors Associated with Grief Among Older Adult Family Caregivers Jacksonville, Fla.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the trajectory of loss and grief over 12 months, the risk factors associated with high levels of pre-loss grief, and the preliminary effectiveness of ART for treatment of high levels of pre-loss grief among family caregivers (FCG) of persons nearing the end of life.
