The purpose of this study is to investigate how abrupt loss of ovarian hormones following bilateral oophorectomy affects overall aging, physical performance, and cognitive function, including the risk for Alzheimer’s disease in women who had this procedure performed prior to natural menopause for benign conditions.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a history of premenopausal bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO, removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes) is associated with decreased performance on objective measures of physical activity.

WISP (Women Choosing Surgical Prevention)

This phase II trial studies how well surgery works in preventing ovarian cancer in patients with genetic mutations at risk of ovarian cancer. Risk reducing salpingo oophorectomy (RRSO) is surgery to remove the fallopian tubes and ovaries at the same time. Interval salpingectomy with delayed oophorectomy (ISDO) is surgery to remove the fallopian tubes. It is not known whether ISDO works better than RRSO at lowering risk of ovarian cancer and improving the sexual function and psychosocial well-being in patients with genetic mutation.

A Study to Evaluate the Impact of Menopause on Cardiac Stiffness Acquired with Magnetic Resonance Elastography

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of menopause transition on myocardial stiffness in healthy female subjects without a history of heart disease who are expected to be close to the average age of menopause transition (~51 years), in the 48-53 year age range. All eligible subjects will undergo two study visits that will include a cardiac MRI/MRE exam, echocardiography imaging and blood test.
