Overview
The Bioinformatics Core at Mayo Clinic supports investigators in leveraging omics data often derived from next-generation sequencing experiments to conduct translational research and improve patient care.
Commonly requested services include:
- Performing quality control checks on raw next-generation sequencing data
- Processing raw next-generation sequencing data through our in-house developed software
- Data annotation services critical for first-level interpretation of omics data
- Data management and data analysis solutions for the integration of large multi-omics data sets
- Data collection from internal and external data sources
With a staff of over 50 with master's or doctoral degrees in the field of bioinformatics, the Bioinformatics Core provides investigators with cutting-edge analytical and interpretative support. Daily, the core's bioinformaticians analyze genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics and metabolomics data and report results to investigators. They also implement, maintain and update the bioinformatics infrastructure needed to execute the core's best-in-class analytical software and manage their large computational footprint.
Currently, the Bioinformatics Core is experiencing rapid growth in a few key areas. These include long-read support, single cell transcriptomics support and spatial omics support.
The Bioinformatics Core has its academic home in the Division of Computational Biology, which is part of the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic. The core provides services to all Mayo Clinic faculty and staff. Additionally, services are offered to investigators and research collaborators outside Mayo Clinic.
