SUMMARY

Daniel R. Brown, M.D., Ph.D., focuses his nonclinical time on hospital administration and the transformation of healthcare delivery models. Dr. Brown holds institutional and professional society leadership positions. As a leader, he strives to develop sustainable, high-quality systems that provide care to hospitalized patients.

Trained as a basic scientist, Dr. Brown uses a data-driven approach to practice redesign. His related efforts address resource allocation and sustainability of high-intensity practices. The results of his work have been shared in medical literature and are available in his curriculum vitae.

Focus areas

  • Critical care. Critical care is a multidisciplinary practice that has historically developed in independent specialty-specific practices. More recently, critical care organizations have formed, and disciplines work across specialties. Dr. Brown is a leader in this field and leads by the example developed at Mayo Clinic.
  • Emergencies and pandemics. Responding to emergencies and pandemics benefit from coordinated action in a manner larger than single health systems. Dr. Brown has worked with and published findings generated from work done at state and national levels.
  • An around-the-clock practice. A 24/7 practice, such as critical care, is associated with burnout and high employee turnover. Dr. Brown is recognized as a thought leader in describing how healthcare systems are able to develop practices that are safe, meet patient needs and support healthcare professionals.
