SUMMARY

The research interests of David H. Bruining, M.D., include advanced inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) diagnostic modalities, endoscopic management of IBD complications and the characterization of fibrostenotic lesions. He is a member of the Stenosis Therapy and Anti-Fibrotic Research consortium.

  • Intestinal ultrasound to predict response to IBD therapies.
  • Intestinal ultrasound to differentiate inflammatory and fibrotic lesions.
  • New medicines, called anti-fibrotic agents, to treat intestinal strictures.
  • Artificial intelligence to accurately characterize complex IBD lesions.
  • Development of tools to allow people to accurately report symptoms related to fibrostenotic Crohn's disease.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Bruining's research seeks to improve care for individuals with IBD. This is done by developing new diagnostic tests and new therapies for intestinal fibrosis.
