The research interests of Vinay Chandrasekhara, M.D., focus on the use of endoscopy to better diagnose and treat pancreatobiliary disorders. He has an interest in procedural innovation to improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Chandrasekhara has developed an international reputation for endoscopic management of pancreatobiliary disease.

Focus areas

  • Early cancer detection. Dr. Chandrasekhara has pioneered endoscopic research for early cancer detection, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and novel genomic cancer discovery.
  • Minimally invasive endoscopic therapies. Research focuses on innovative outpatient endoscopic treatments to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
  • AI in endoscopy. Along with his collaborators, Dr. Chandrasekhara has an interest in developing AI algorithms using endoscopic imaging.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Chandrasekhara works with collaborators to identify pancreatobiliary cancer markers with endoscopy to better detect cancer. Also, Dr. Chandrasekhara has codeveloped AI algorithms using endoscopic imaging to better detect pancreatic and biliary cancers. These innovations allow cancer to be found early. This helps patients get timely cancer treatment, which could improve their outcomes.

Dr. Chandrasekhara's research focuses on minimally invasive endoscopic treatment options that can often be offered in an outpatient setting with minimal recovery time. These research efforts have made outcomes and quality of life better for patients.
