SUMMARY
As the practice chair of Mayo Clinic's Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program, Tony Y. Chon, M.D., promotes the collaborative spirit that enables the integration of conventional medicine with nontraditional medical modalities, such as acupuncture, massage therapy, mind-body applications, and herbal or other dietary supplements. As a practitioner certified in acupuncture, Dr. Chon integrates acupuncture therapies to assist in the management of many medical conditions.
Dr. Chon's personal goal is to ensure that research conducted in the realm of acupuncture is held to the same high standards as all other research at Mayo and the knowledge that is gained is used to optimize the application of acupuncture in clinical practice.

Significance to patient care
The interest in and use of complementary and integrative medicine modalities in the general population have increased significantly in the past decade. Patients and physicians are realizing that the integration of many modalities, such as acupuncture, assists in the optimal management of many medical conditions. It is imperative that dissemination of evidence-based knowledge to patients and physicians continues to keep pace with a constantly changing medical environment. Dr. Chon and his colleagues intend to continue to investigate therapies in complementary and integrative medicine that may provide positive impact on ongoing patient care.
