The research interests of David J. DiCaudo, M.D., include cutaneous lymphomas, skin cancers, valley fever and wound healing. Dr. DiCaudo specializes in the microscopic features of the skin.

Focus areas

  • Cutaneous lymphoma. Dr. DiCaudo collaborates with colleagues in studies focused on the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous T-cell and B-cell lymphomas.
  • Skin cancers. Dr. DiCaudo and his colleagues perform research related to the immune response in melanoma and research related to prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma. These projects include the use of artificial intelligence to evaluate the microscopic features of squamous cell carcinoma.
  • Valley fever. Dr. DiCaudo has published extensive descriptions of the skin findings seen in patients with coccidioidomycosis, also known as valley fever. He has described rashes that are newly recognized clues to the infection.
  • Wound healing. Dr. DiCaudo collaborates with researchers at Arizona State University in projects using innovative techniques to promote the healing of wounds.

Significance to patient care

The goal of Dr. DiCaudo's research of cancerous skin conditions is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous lymphomas and skin cancers. Dr. DiCaudo's descriptive studies of valley fever aim to increase recognition of cutaneous clues to the infection. His research in wound healing supports the development of new techniques to promote healing.
