Jeong-Heon Lee, Ph.D., focuses on deciphering epigenetic mechanisms in the etiology and progression of human diseases. Dr. Lee is an expert in next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based epigenetic technologies and in using this platform to identify disease-specific epigenetic features for early detection, prognosis and treatment stratification.
As director of the Epigenomics Development Laboratory within the Center for Individualized Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Lee leads the technology development operations and has enabled the optimization and implementation of NGS-based epigenetic technologies using various sample types for research and clinical applications. Dr. Lee also collaborates closely with both basic and clinical scientists using state-of-the-art technologies to elucidate the underlying epigenetic mechanisms in diseases.
Epigenetic dysregulation is involved in the etiology and progress of various human diseases. Dr. Lee's research and technology development expertise has led to the establishment of epigenetic-based assays for research discoveries and clinical samples. Drugs targeting aberrant epigenetic changes are used and potentially customized for individualized treatment depending on epigenetic and genetic features of the patient.
