Lin.Grace@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Grace Lin, M.D., M.B.A., is an advanced heart failure cardiologist and echocardiographer specializing in cardiac amyloidosis and cardiac dysfunction related to cancer and cancer therapies. Her work focuses on developing new therapies in these areas, as well as methods to identify patients who are at high risk of heart failure and other complications. In addition, Dr. Lin studies healthcare policy with an aim to improve healthcare delivery for patients with chronic diseases, including heart failure.

Focus areas

  • Cardiac amyloidosis. Dr. Lin studies arrhythmogenesis, arrhythmia management and risk stratification for sudden cardiac death in patients with cardiac amyloidosis.
  • Cardio-oncology. Dr. Lin researches the mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction, the impact of immunotherapies on the heart and cardiac imaging for risk stratification for patients receiving cancer treatment.
  • Extending heart failure care to the home. Dr. Lin studies community paramedic-led management of acute decompensated heart failure, remote monitoring strategies for heart failure and digital technologies to enhance at-home heart failure management.
  • Health policy. Dr. Lin focuses on the impact of payment policies on healthcare delivery and the integration of new technologies into clinical practice.

Significance to patient care

Treatments for cancer and other diseases can put patients at high risk of heart failure. Dr. Lin aims to learn which patients are at high risk and share that information with them. This information can help patients make difficult decisions about their health. Patients who develop heart failure usually have many healthcare visits over their lifetime. But many patients have limited access to healthcare professionals and hospitals with necessary skills. Dr. Lin encourages strategies that allow patients to get the highest quality healthcare on their own terms and the healthcare team can explore the best options to deliver it.
