Mangaonkar.Abhishek@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Abhishek A. Mangaonkar, M.B.B.S., studies the immune microenvironment of myeloid cancers and bone marrow failure syndromes. The immune microenvironment plays an important role in clonal evolution and condition progression and can be therapeutically manipulated for clinical benefit. He also studies the role of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in bone marrow failure syndromes such as immune-mediated aplastic anemia; inherited bone marrow failure; telomere biology conditions; and vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked autoinflammatory, somatic (VEXAS) syndrome.

Focus areas

  • Role of immune microenvironment in chronic myeloid neoplasms such as chronic myelomonocytic leukemia and bone marrow failure syndromes.
  • Clonal hematopoiesis and its role in health and illnesses.
  • Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in people with bone marrow failure syndromes and myeloid neoplasms.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Mangaonkar's research focuses on understanding the biology of illnesses and discovering new therapies for challenging blood disorders. These studies involve using clinical data and patient samples, developing new disease models in the laboratory, and conducting clinical trials.
