SUMMARY
Kalpana Muthusamy, M.B.B.S., M.D., researches diabetes management, diabetes technology, weight management, weight bias, endocrine care in the transplant population, weight management in special populations including transgender people and healthcare inequity.
Focus areas
Dr. Muthusamy studies the risks of diabetes and the metabolic impact of endocrine adjuvant therapy in the setting of hormone receptor positive breast cancer.
Significance to patient care
There are increasing numbers of breast cancer survivors and greater use of aromatase inhibitor therapy in people with hormone receptor positive breast cancer. There is an urgent need to evaluate the impact on diabetes risk in this population to better guide their metabolic healthcare and long-term post-cancer survival. This must be carefully investigated given the magnitude of the implications that it will have on treatment decisions and chronic disease management.
