Mark A. Nyman, M.D., researches the implementation and effectiveness of electronic patient-facing questionnaires.

Focus areas

  • Patient-reported outcomes. Dr. Nyman assesses the implementation and effectiveness of electronic patient-facing questionnaires that quantify a patient's outcome. This outcome is from the patient's perspective, within a particular domain of interest to the patient.
  • General questionnaires. Dr. Nyman assesses the implementation and effectiveness of general electronic patient-facing questionnaires regarding completion and its overall burden to the patient.

Significance to patient care

Quantifying outcomes for patients, from their point of view, can help a care team in tracking and helping patients when needed. Gathering outcomes from all patients undergoing a procedure or treatment may tell the care team what is most useful for patients. Asking patient-facing electronic questions through a patient's journey may help the care team. These electronic questions must be asked strategically to assure that the overall patient burden is lessened.
