SUMMARY

Prema P. Peethambaram, M.D., is a medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. She also was previously active in the treatment of gynecologic cancers. Dr. Peethambaram's research throughout her well-established career at Mayo Clinic has been focused on the treatment of gynecologic malignancies and breast cancer. Dr. Peethambaram has led several early therapeutic and new cancer treatment trials. She enrolls participants in clinical trials for the treatment of breast cancer and for alleviation of symptoms of cancer and cancer treatment.

Dr. Peethambaram has presented at national oncology meetings and published in leading peer-reviewed cancer journals.

Focus areas

  • Enrolling, monitoring, and evaluating the progress of patients in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant, and metastatic cancer settings in clinical trials with all subtypes of breast cancer.
  • Researching the use of genomic profiling of tumors to guide therapy.

  • Conducting clinical trials, both pharmacological and nonpharmacological, designed to alleviate symptoms related to breast cancer and cancer treatment.

Dr. Peethambaram's research to create new drugs and ways to treat breast cancer can help patients live longer and feel better. Her work using genetic information from tumors and new markers allows doctors to give more-personalized and more-effective treatments. And by finding ways to reduce the side effects of cancer treatment, including nondrug methods, Dr. Peethambaram aims to reduce side effects for patients with cancer and improve their quality of life.
