Dr. Rush focuses on the cognitive, psychological and physical aspects of functional neurological disorder and evaluates potential interventions for treatment and tracking treatment outcomes. She is interested in limiting disability and improving ability in people with functional neurological disorder.
  • Acquired brain disorder. Dr. Rush studies psychological and cognitive factors that predict outcomes after stroke, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral aneurysm among other forms of acquired brain injuries and conditions.

Significance to patient care

Complex neurological disorders result in disability and limitations in affected people and challenges for those close to them. Defining cognitive, behavioral and physical features provides clinical and scientific clarity. Recognizing these features legitimizes the lived experience of disease and helps develop scientifically informed methods for intervention to maximize function and quality of life. Dr. Rush's research uniquely combines clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology in the clinical neurology space. Her research helps individuals understand what it is like to live with complex symptoms and teaches affected people how to thrive.
